Sagging Skin and a Belly Bulge Can Be Dealt With Using a Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck is a popular cosmetic procedure in which belly bulges and excess fat and skin around the abdomen are removed. A tummy tuck redefines a person’s shape and increases their confidence.
HOW IS A TUMMY TUCK PERFORMED?
During a tummy tuck, Dr. Salas make a curving horizontal incision on the abdomen, from hipbone to hipbone. A second incision may be made around the belly button for increased enhancement higher up on the abdomen.
Liposuction is then performed to remove stubborn fatty tissue. Loose muscles in the abdominal wall are tightened using internal sutures. The abdominal skin is pulled down and excess skin is removed. Once the excess skin has been trimmed off, the stretched skin is then pulled back up.
The incisions are closed with the help of surgical sutures. After repositioning the skin, the bellybutton is pulled to the surface through a new opening.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A TUMMY TUCK?
Any individual above 18 years of age and in relatively good health can be an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck. Women who are planning on becoming pregnant are recommended against getting a tummy tuck, as childbirth can affect the results of the procedure. In addition, people who suffer from life-threatening medical conditions are not eligible for a tummy tuck.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR A TUMMY TUCK
The first step in preparing for a tummy tuck is a consultation with Dr. Salas. He will give you information about the procedure. Make sure to disclose your medical history with Dr. Salas, including the details regarding any past surgeries, health conditions, and allergies. This will help rule out complications during the procedure.
If you happen to be taking beta blockers or blood-pressure medications, Dr. Salas can tell you whether the dosages of these medicines need to be altered.
Another important step in preparation is making sure to keep realistic expectations. Results can vary from what was originally discussed and varies from person to person depending on factors like age, skin type, and body type.
During the weeks leading up to the surgery, you will be asked to refrain from smoking and taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin or ibuprofen.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A TUMMY TUCK?
During the initial weeks after the tummy tuck, there is some swelling and bruising around the surgical sites. These will subside gradually. Cold compresses can help bring down the swelling sooner.
Aftercare instructions are to be followed as closely as possible. Patients should not engage in any strenuous activities while they are recovering. Painkillers and other medications may be prescribed to help with the healing process.
Complete healing usually takes place within two to three weeks. Full results are visible once all the swelling has come down. A proper diet and exercise routine can help the results last as long as possible.
